An elderly Muslim citizen was tortured by other passengers while traveling in a train in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

The senior citizens from Jalgaon district were going to their daughter's house in Malegaon by train.

Dissatisfied with the senior citizen's answer, the people continue to ask him questions about the meat and are also seen making videos on their phones.

At one point the senior citizens say that they have buffalo meat in bags.

One of the tormentors says, 'We will tell whose meat it is by tasting it.' Another says, 'This is the month of Sawan.' These are our holy festival days and you are doing this.'

The Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 prohibits the slaughter of cows and bulls. However, buffaloes are not banned under this law.

The Railway Commissioner has confirmed the incident and registered a First Information Report or FIR in the matter. The commissioner said that the railway police is looking for the passengers who beat up the elderly passenger.

After the video went viral, the Government Railway Police (GRP) approached the elderly man who was initially unwilling to file a complaint.

Police have identified two accused who are residents of Dhule. A police team has also been sent to Dhule to search for them.

National Congress Party leader Jitendra Ohad criticized the incident and blamed the law and order situation in the state.
