In this regard, the young Mehek Kumari along with her friends organized a program to celebrate the festival of Holi in Devi Mata Mandir of Umarkot city by collecting funds.

Speaking to Independent Urdu, Mehk Kumari said, "We call it a city, but it is a small village." Earlier, we used to climb on the roof and see men celebrating Holi with great fanfare, painting each other and enjoying themselves very much.

We girls did not go out of the house on the day of Rangoli. For one thing, there was no separate program for us and due to the rush outside, we did not even go to the houses of our relatives, we just painted each other at home.

Mehek Kumari says that 'we girls who used to come to the temple to study the Geeta, we requested our teacher to help us organize the program, so he said, 'Okay, you should do the program separately this time.'

He further said that 'we did the same program last year as well, but the participation of women was less in it, one of the reasons for this was that not enough women knew about it and it was a joint program for women and men.'

"This time we went door to door and for the whole week we played dandiya, garba and yesterday we burnt the holka on a daily basis.

"Women used to come here from many neighborhoods to meet each other, for them it became a center of conversation as well as entertainment," she says.

"Our men appreciated us for this step and helped us financially and morally."

According to Mehek, 'After a week-long program, we did a big program in which only women were present and in this program the children performed theater, sang our folk songs and danced by the women of Bhai Baat.
